I'm a 22 year old female living in Wisconsin, engaged to be married, and promoting affordable web design on the side of daily life!
I started my working life at ShopKo in customer service and cashiering. Even though I hated it then, I can vouge for it being one of my better jobs. I had done some odd dabbling with HTML, and Photoshop, PSP - but hadn't graduated yet from the mediocre respects of web design. A few photos here and there along with some flashy animated gifs and I thought it was the greatest thing in the world! Sadly, I was mistaken.
After playing around more with Adobe Photoshop 2.0, I fell in love with the program - and discovered I wasn't the artistically-challenged, creatively-deficient zombie I considered myself to be! I found that I could actually create "art" - truly awful though my early efforts were!
Inspired by my new-found creativity, I started taking more interest in web design and played with html books. Never really reading them extensively.. just memorizing bits and peices of coding until I felt I understood what it did. On the side of this of course, I was still attending High School and unemployed.
It came time that my personal website caught the attention of some fellow roleplayers on the Online AOL Community spotted my work, and loved it. So since then I have been dabbling with creating work for them, as well as others they have referred me to. After all, it was the escape from grim reality that I was putting the daily news together at Gannett Newspapers. I worked there for several months, before conflicts with my Manager caused my sister and I to quit.
Unemployed at a time when jobs in the web industry weren't exactly growing on trees - what was a girl to do? Start her own business, of course! SereneDream Web Design was born, and I discovered the joys of self-employment ( going to work in your pjs = joy )
After four years as a freelance web designer, I still love the web, still love Photoshop and PSP, and still hate web crashes!
